How does my food stay frozen during transit?Updated 9 months ago

This depends on the delivery partner.

For UPS we use dry ice to keep your food fresh and frozen.

Dry ice is condensed carbon dioxide (CO2) at a temperature of approximately -80 °C. Using dry ice is an ideal way to maintain cold temperatures during the transport of frozen products. In our case, we add enough dry ice to our boxes for them to stay cold for a minimum of 36 hours. Dry ice also evaporates without dampening the package. Nevertheless, it can be fairly dangerous, and it’s important to be aware of some safety measures when handling dry ice.

Dry ice should not be touched with bare hands or come into contact with humans or animals. Touching dry ice can cause cold burns which are painful.

For protection, we seal our dry ice so that you can in fact touch the packaging, and easily dispose of it. Dry ice also displaces oxygen, so please do not open the sealed package.

For Vers & Fijn (Netherlands & Belgium) we use cooled trucks and are delivered from the Netherlands. This means we don't need dry ice and shorten the transport distance. A good thing for the environment and the meals!
